The elevator doors slid open.

Standing right outside, prepared to head out for an afternoon stroll, were Kael’s parents.

The five of us stood frozen, staring at one another in absolute silence.

Finally, Kael’s mother broke the thick tension with a warm, hesitant smile. “Who exactly got bound?”

An hour later, Kael’s parents marched him directly into the Silver Moon pack house to formally beg for forgiveness.

First, they expressed their deep regrets over Kael’s impulsive, unauthorized actions.

Then, Kael stepped forward to deliver an incredibly earnest, heartfelt speech regarding his devotion, meticulously laying out his entire savings, his future inheritance, and even offering to sign a comprehensive prenuptial agreement.

During his vow, he swore that if he were ever unfaithful to me, he would willingly submit to a pack tribunal and leave with absolutely nothing—subtly but viciously throwing shade at a certain former Alpha.

My parents were still hesitating, feeling that Kael was a bit too young and still acted like an overgrown kid.

But Selene jumped into the fray as a passionate wingwoman, hyping her brother up as the future hope of the werewolf race, a literal genius in the research community, and the absolute gold standard of loyalty and devotion.

Most importantly, the legal mating was already a done deal.

Ultimately, my parents chose to respect my wishes, sitting down with Kael’s parents to discuss the logistics of holding a proper ceremony.

I wanted to do a destination mating trip instead.

The day we set off on our road trip, the sky was completely clear and beautiful.

I dozed off in the passenger seat, faintly registering the sound of him turning up the car heater before gently draping his jacket over my shoulders.
