My Fiancé’s Confession From the Future Chapter 03

My Fiancé’s Confession From the Future Chapter 03

The whole night passed.

At dawn, his message finally arrived. He seemed to have hesitated for a long time, sending it piece by piece.

“Next month, your father will have a sudden heart attack. You’ll be out of town on a business trip. I had already arranged for the best cardiac surgery team to be on standby.”

“But that day, Jessica told me she had gotten pregnant by accident and then miscarried. She wanted me to come be with her immediately. When I left, I told my assistant to keep monitoring your father’s surgery.”

“What I didn’t know was that Jessica had already called ahead to cancel the specialist team and replaced them with the regular on-call doctors.”

“By the time I got back, the surgery had already failed.”

“You were crouched outside the operating room, crying all night.”

The last message was just a few words.

“That scene stayed with me for years. Every time I think about it, even now, I feel regret.”

I finished reading and calmly turned off my phone.

Then I went straight to my parents’ house.

When I pushed open the door, my father was sitting on the couch with his reading glasses on, looking at a book.

On the coffee table sat a pill organizer, each compartment neatly filled with a week’s worth of medication.

I walked over and linked my arm through his, burying my face against his shoulder.

He laughed and patted my hand.

“What brings you here all of a sudden? Did Ethan upset you again?”

“No. I just wanted to see you.”

I stayed at my parents’ house all day.

I helped my mother cook. I played chess with my father.

Before I left, I sent another message to the future Ethan.

“What about my mom? What happens to her?”

The reply came quickly. Brief and brutal.

“After your father died, you had a breakdown for a while. Jessica used your name to put her in an unlicensed care facility. By the time I found her, the wrong medications had left her confused and unable to recognize anyone.”

I gripped my phone tighter and looked back at my mother humming a song in the kitchen.

On the drive home, I pulled over to the side of the road.

I pressed my forehead against the steering wheel. My shoulders wouldn’t stop shaking.

The boy who used to chase off anyone who bullied me. The teenager who shoved his only umbrella into my hands on a rainy day and ran home getting soaked.

The man who transferred every cent of his savings into my account when my business was struggling, without even blinking.

Ethan. He would really do all of this?

But the evidence was too specific. I had no choice but to believe it.

I wiped my face and kept driving home.

When I got back, I started organizing my things with a plan.

I was going to leave him.

But then I got a call from the hospital.

I thought they were just asking me to pick up my checkup results from last week.

But what the doctor said made me freeze.

“Ms. Walsh, congratulations. You’re three months pregnant. The baby is perfectly healthy.”

My hand trembled as I slowly pressed it against my stomach.

Three months.

Before Ethan even proposed, the baby was already there.

My eyes grew wet.

Not from pain. It was because this news, at this moment, was cruel to the point of absurdity.

At the hospital, I sat in the hallway for a long time holding the prenatal report.

Finally, I opened my phone and asked him.

“Do we… have a child?”

The screen showed he was typing. Then he stopped. Then started again.

Over and over.

Finally, one line appeared.

“We did, once.”

A second message followed immediately.

“Please don’t ask anymore. I’m begging you.”

An entire hour of silence.

Then he sent a voice message. His voice was so hoarse it barely sounded human.

“Serena, that child… it would be better if you ended the pregnancy now.”

“Don’t let anyone know the baby exists.”

“Including the current version of me.”
