I Found Out I Was the Real Daughter Before the SAT So I Tanked It Chapter 06

At noon the day before score-release day, Mom and Dad threw an early celebration luncheon.

Dad raised his glass. “Harvard is all but guaranteed, but if our Annalise can fight her way to becoming the statewide top scorer, her mother and I can finally say we’ve done our job.”

The room erupted in cheers.

Mom wrapped an arm around Willa. “Willa, don’t be discouraged either. I’ve already contacted a university foundation program overseas for you. When you come back, you’ll still have that foreign-educated shine.”

“Willa really lucked out.”

“She’s blessed.”

I sat at the main table without lifting my head.

Today was supposed to be about me, yet everyone’s attention was still on the favored one.

In wealthy families, scores were always just another status accessory.

It was only because Mom and Dad had both been statewide top SAT scorers themselves that they had their own vanity to satisfy.

They wanted to build themselves a “top-scorer family” image.

At twelve thirty, Mom stood, picked up her phone, and cast the screen to the TV. Her voice was full of pride.

“Come on, everyone. Watch closely. Our family’s top scorer is about to be revealed.”

The relatives set down their glasses and gathered around.

I entered my exam ID on my phone and tapped to check the result.

The living room screen lit up.

For three seconds, the entire room was dead silent.

Then it exploded.
