The man in front of me opened his mouth, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “Are you happy?”

I raised an eyebrow. “Very happy, thank you for asking. I’m sorry, I have to go. My coworker is waiting for me.”

The next day, before he left, he sent me a message. [My flight leaves at ten tomorrow. Would you come see me off?]

I wrote back: [Wishing you a safe flight. Take care.]
