He Punished Me for Erasing Her Ink, by Carving His Rage Into My Flesh Chapter 09

A few days later, I was walking Nolan’s dog when a black Rolls-Royce Cullinan pulled up beside me.

The window rolled down, and my husband’s voice came from inside.

“Claire, why haven’t you come to see me? You’re still mad at me, aren’t you? I can explain everything. Just get in the car, okay?”

I gave him a small wave. “Adrian, you seem to have forgotten that we’re divorced.”

“And I don’t get into strangers’ cars anymore.”

After what Isla had done, I had a psychological scar when it came to that.

With that, I kept walking the dog.

But the man I wanted least to see refused to leave me alone.

He hopped out, shadowing my steps until he gently caught my wrist.

“Claire, can we talk?”

My face stayed calm. I didn’t even want to look at him.

“Everything between us is already clear. Your signature is on the divorce papers. That was real.”

“Adrian, let me be free. Don’t force someone who doesn’t love you to stay by your side.”

“There’s no point in that.”

But Adrian refused to give up.

He kept talking, rambling on about everything he had done over the past few days to find me, and about the temporary ink he’d used on my skin on my body.

He boasted about how he had dealt with Isla as if that would buy my forgiveness.

I already knew about the tattoo ink.

When those disgusting words slowly faded from my skin, I understood.

As for everything else he told me, I wasn’t curious at all.

The last bit of patience drained out of me.

I turned back and said, “None of that matters anymore. We’re done.”

“Don’t reach out to me again.”

After hearing that, Adrian suddenly snapped.

“Claire, did you already find another man after leaving me? Is that why you can be this cold? How could you move on from me so quickly?”

For the first time, I let an expression appear on my face.

I looked at him with open mockery.

“You really are ridiculous. Does my life only have meaning if it’s attached to a man?”

“I’m not a trophy to be reclaimed. I’m not something you can fight over, steal, or lock away whenever you feel like it.”

As I spoke, I took my phone out of my pocket.

“Leave me alone. Keep your distance. You know who my childhood friend is. One call, and he’ll have MP out here to escort you off the property.”

But I never expected Adrian to hold on with some terrifying, stubborn conviction.

He gripped my arm and refused to let go, insisting that I come home with him.

I had no patience left.

I lowered my voice and gave a command to the Rottweiler beside me.

“Snow. Bite.”

It worked instantly.

The dog was named Snow, but he was a fully trained military dog in every sense.

He understood my command.

His sharp teeth sank into Adrian’s calf several times, each bite tearing through flesh.

Adrian could no longer walk. He dropped to one knee, cold sweat breaking across his face from the pain.

I didn’t spare him another glance.

I kept walking.

My phone vibrated softly.

A notification appeared on the screen.

[Ms. Whitmore, your flight has been booked successfully.]

[Your flight will depart at 8:00 p.m.]

I felt a weight lift from my shoulders.

For the rest of my life, there would be no more awful people.

No more illness tormenting me.

I had more than enough strength to make myself happy.
