The screen on the wall suddenly flickered to life.

Vivian looked smug, her provocative gaze seemingly piercing through the screen and locking onto me.

“Maya, how are you enjoying your little ‘retreat’?”

“I really envy you. I’m stuck here braving the scorching sun just to hand out water to these poor, low-class workers.”

Every word was dripping with malice, so I closed my eyes, refusing to give her even a glance.

Her excitement only grew as she continued to gloat:

“Maya, once I become a mega-influencer, I’ll definitely treat you to dinner. After all, you’ve been such a big help.”

If she had a tail, it would have been wagging at that moment.

I sneered:

“Vivian, things stolen from others will never truly be yours.”

It was as if she had heard the funniest joke in the world.

Vivian let out a girlish giggle.

“Maya, you won’t give up until you hit rock bottom.”

“I stole from you? That’s hilarious. If you hadn’t stolen my Luke away, you bitch, do you think I would have targeted you?”

I furrowed my brow tightly.

So that was it?

In that instant, all the inconsistencies from the past flashed through my mind.

The first time I went to Luke’s house, Vivian hid in her room and wouldn’t come out. His parents had awkwardly explained: “She’s just a temperamental kid.”

I actually believed them. Later, every time I went shopping, I would buy gifts for Vivian, trying to smooth things over.

But she had smashed every single one of them to pieces and thrown them in the trash.

Every time I joined Luke’s inner circle for a hangout, those friends treated me with a strange, lingering hostility.

It all made sense now.

“Vivian, I’m warning you one last time. If you don’t make your Voodoo disappear, I will make things very ugly for you,” I said sternly.

But Vivian wasn’t listening.

She intentionally pulled out her phone in front of me and dialed a number.

Her voice was sickeningly sweet:

“Luke, I’m so upset!”

“I just told Maya I wanted to take her to dinner, and she started threatening me… saying she’d make me regret being born…”

The lie was pathetically clumsy.

But Luke’s tone on the other end was more affectionate than anything I had ever heard:

“Vivian, don’t be upset! Once that bitch has no more value, I’ll sell her off to some backwater town to get even for you. How does that sound?”

The final string in my heart snapped.

Even though I already knew Luke’s true character, hearing his absurdly cruel words with my own ears still felt incredibly bitter.

My nails dug deep into my palms, but I felt no pain.

After all, no matter the physical pain, it couldn’t compare to the ache in my heart.

Vivian’s lips curled into a smirk.

“See that? In Luke’s heart, you aren’t even worth a single strand of my hair!”

She finished speaking, the screen went dark, and the room became deathly quiet.

I clenched my fists.

Suppressing the surge of humiliation, I spoke into the GPS-enabled Diamond Tennis Bracelet:

“Pick me up.”

I was rescued in secret.

Tomorrow was the flight to Antarctica, so I rushed to the airport at top speed.

The next day.

As soon as Luke woke up, his heart began to pound, as if something vital was about to spiral out of control.

But he couldn’t put his finger on it.

He carried breakfast down and opened the basement door.

One look, and his heart sank to the pit of his stomach.

She was gone?

When my phone rang, I had already finished the boarding process.

I hadn’t blocked him.

Instead, I watched with great interest as the incoming calls repeated. I could imagine exactly how frantic he was on the other side.

Once I reached my destination, I didn’t wait a second before starting a FaceTime call with Vivian.

“Hi! Surprise! Guess where I am?”

Vivian felt as if she had been dropped into an ice cellar; she nearly fainted.
