The Loser Ex-Wife Came Back Hot Chapter 27

“Jasper!”

Alaric’s sudden sharp reprimand made Jasper Wilder snap his mouth shut.

Nova stood frozen in shock.

Lately, because Alaric was helping her lose weight, he hadn’t been finishing up until eight or nine at night.

The Donald estate was over a mile away from the Langdon house, yet every time, he insisted on walking back on his own, refusing to let her family’s driver take him.

She never imagined Mrs. Langdon could be so cruel as to physically lock him out of the

house.

Nova, you fool, how did you not consider this possibility?

“I-I’m just telling the truth! Why are you getting so mad?”

As Jasper handed Alaric his medication, his gaze darted back and forth between the two of

them.

Sensing the heavy tension in the air, Jasper quickly added, “Uh… I’m going to go get you some water. You guys take your time!”

With that, Jasper bolted from the scene.

Looking at Alaric’s pale face, Nova asked softly, “If Mrs. Langdon was treating you like this, why didn’t you tell me?”

“It has nothing to do with you.”

“How could it have nothing to do with me? If I hadn’t kept you late to help me work out, she wouldn’t have locked you out.”

“I volunteered, and you paid me for it.”

Alaric’s voice was utterly flat. “My business is my own. It has nothing to do with you, and I don’t need you meddling in it.”

Without another word, he turned and walked away.

Staring at his retreating figure, Nova felt a heavy wave of guilt wash over her.

She had thought that by paying him to help her lose weight, she could build a solid relationship with him while simultaneously improving his living conditions. She never realized her actions were just dragging him into even deeper misery.

That evening, Nova arrived home alone. Seeing her walk in by herself, Mrs. Donald, who had

already set out five sets of silverware, paused in surprise. “Nova, why are you alone? Where’s

Alaric?”

“He’s… sick.”

“Sick? What happened? Did he overexert himself helping you?”

“He’s been tutoring me these past few days, so he was going home late. Mrs. Langdon kept locking him out in the cold, so he caught a fever.”

As she finished explaining, Mr. Donald walked into the living room.

Nova looked at them both. “Mom, Dad, I need your help with something.”

Hearing this, her parents exchanged a meaningful glance.

As the sky darkened, Alaric dragged his heavy, aching body to the entrance of the Langdon residence. He ended up running straight into Mrs. Langdon and Caleb, who were just stepping out of their luxury car.

It was obvious she had just taken Caleb to the hospital; the bruises on Caleb’s face from the fight were still glaringly visible.

“Mom, that bastard is the one who hit me!”

Caleb sneered. He couldn’t do anything to Alaric at school, but now that they were back on Langdon territory, Alaric was completely at his mercy.

Mrs. Langdon shot a venomous glare at Alaric. Between the Donalds calling off the engagement and Caleb getting in trouble for early romance, she had been suffocating with rage all week. Now that Alaric had dared to strike her son, he was the perfect punching bag to vent her frustrations.

“You little rat! I take you in out of the goodness of my heart, and you dare hit my son? How can you be so vicious? You really are a worthless, ungrateful parasite!”

As she screamed, Mrs. Langdon lunged forward, viciously pinching Alaric’s arm. “You beat up my son, and you still have the nerve to come back? Move! We’re going to the police station! This isn’t over!”

Alaric frowned deeply and forcefully shoved her hand away, only to receive a stinging slap across the face in return.

“You dare rebel? You dare fight back?!”

Mrs. Langdon’s manicured nails gouged into the side of Alaric’s cheek, leaving three vivid, bloody scratches in their wake.

At that exact moment, the glaring beams of a car’s headlights illuminated the three of them.
