Born Ditzy: Drunk Vows, Sober Goodbye Chapter 12

Born Ditzy: Drunk Vows, Sober Goodbye Chapter 12

Eight months later, I lay in the delivery room, in so much pain that I wanted to twist Nolan’s head right off.

He stayed with me the whole time. I squeezed his hand so hard that it was covered in bruises, but he didn’t make a sound. He just looked at me with reddened eyes and kept saying, “Breathe. Take deep breaths with me.”

[Mr. Steele is seriously nailing this whole “birthing coach” thing.]

(You can tell he did his homework beforehand.]

[But his hand is about to get crushed. Haha!]

“It’s out, it’s out!”

A baby’s first cry echoed through the delivery room.

“It’s a boy!”

Right after that, another sharp cry rang out.

“There’s a girl, too! It’s a pair of twins, one boy and one girl!”

The comments exploded.

[A pair of twins, a boy and a girl!]

[Lyra literally completed the family unit in one go!]

[Mr. Steele is a winner in life!]

Nolan held both babies with shaking hands. He looked at the little boy in his left arm, then at the little girl in his right. Tears spilled down his face.

[He’s crying again.]

very time he does, it’s for Lyra and the kids.]

I’m literally sobbing right now.]

I watched Nolan weakly and said, “Stop crying already, or they’re going to think you’re the one who gave birth to them.”

He froze for a second, then laughed. He handed the babies to the nurse, then bent down and kissed my forehead.

He rasped, “Thank you. Thank you for keeping them, and thank you for choosing to stay.”

Once my month of postpartum recovery was over, Nolan officially took over as head of Steele Group.

In the business world, he was ruthless and decisive. In just a few months, he doubled the company’s market value.

But the most important part of his day was still coming home to the kids and me.

[Mr. Steele really is filthy rich now.]

[But he’s still the same guy who makes Lyra soup.]

[Now this is what a real romance hero looks like.]

One afternoon, the sunlight was perfect. I laid the twins in their crib, and they babbled happily to each other. Nolan was in the

study, dealing with work. He would glance up at me from time to time and give me a little smile.

I leaned against the crib, watching our two cherub-like children, and suddenly remembered what had happened three years ago –that drunken night, that man I’d half-stumbled home with in a haze, and that totally out-of-nowhere proposal…

“Sweethearts, I think we… picked your dad up off the street for a lifetime,” I murmured.

Obviously, the kids didn’t understand a word. They just waved their tiny hands and grinned at me.

Footsteps sounded behind me. Nolan walked over and wrapped his arms around me from behind. He asked, “What are you telling them?”

“I’m badmouthing you.”

He laughed and lowered his head to kiss my forehead. Sunlight poured in through the window, spilling over the four of us. It was warm, bright, and just right.

The final comments floated past.

[Hooray for the finale!]

[Our ditzy queen and her devoted husband better stay happy forever!]

[This ending is everything I ever wanted.]

[Bye, Mr. Steele. Bye, Lyra.]

[We’ll miss you guys.]

I leaned back into Nolan’s arms, looking at the sunlight outside the window. I was a little hungry.

“Nolan.”

“Yeah?”

“Let’s have soup tonight.”

“Sure. What kind?”

“Doesn’t matter. Anything you make is fine.”

He chuckled, resting his chin lightly on top of my head. “Got it.”

One last comment appeared.

[She’s still a little ditzy, and he’s still endlessly indulgent. That’s probably what the best kind of love looks like.]
