Born Ditzy: Drunk Vows, Sober Goodbye Chapter 10

Nolan stepped in front of me, shielding me. “Grandpa, I told you not to make things hard for her.”

Arthur snorted. “I haven’t said anything yet.”

The rest of the Steeles stood off to the side, each with a different expression. Some were curious, some openly dismissive. A few younger women whispered to each other, their eyes full of judgment as they stared at me.

[This family’s vibe is so suffocating.1

(Is Lyra gonna be okay here?]

(Mr. Steele, protect your wife!]

I wasn’t too bothered, mainly because I was hungry. I tugged on Nolan’s sleeve and whispered, “Is there anything to eat? I’m starving.”

I hadn’t spoken loudly, but the hall was so quiet that everyone heard me. The atmosphere instantly turned awkward.

[Hahaha! Lyra, are you serious right now?]

[Who says they’re hungry at a rich-family reunion scene?]

[To be fair, pregnant women do get hungry all the time.]

The corner of Nolan’s mouth lifted.

“Of course.” He turned to the butler. “Bring out the snacks that were prepared.’

Then, he took my hand and, under everyone’s probing gazes, led me straight toward the courtyard at the back.

“I set up a separate courtyard for you. It’s quiet and close to the kitchen.”

He lowered his voice and added, “If you ever want something to eat, just tell someone.”

wn on the edge of the bed, suddenly feeling moved. “When did you prepare all this?”

Nolan crouched down in front of me to change my shoes. “Right after the divorce.”

“So back then, you were already planning on bringing me back?”

He looked up at me, his gaze tender. “I never planned on letting you go.”

(Gah! This man!]

(I hereby name him Male Lead of the Year!]

In the first month after Nolan returned, the entire Steele family went through a massive shake-up. He ruthlessly took control of three core projects within Steele Group. The branch family members who used to look down on him were dealt with one by one, until they were all completely subdued.

(CEO mode is officially activated!]

[Mr. Steele’s business talent is insane.]

But I only learned about all of this from the comments. Nolan never talked to me about work.

No matter how busy he was, he always made it back home to have dinner with me. At night, he would massage my feet and watch TV with me.

Sometimes, I would fall asleep or the couch. When I woke up, I would already be in bed. He would be sitting beside me, going through documents with the desk lamp dimmed so he wouldn’t wake me

[Out there, he’s the ruthless CEO. At home, he’s completely devoted to Lyra.)

[The contrast is killing me in the best way!]

Celia showed up one afternoon.

I was in the garden, sunbathing and eating strawberries that Nolan had flown in from abroad.

The butler hurried over and said someone was here to see me. He had a complicated look on his face. “It’s Ms. Sanders. She said … she’s an old friend of Mr. Steele’s and wants to see you.”

The comments exploded.

[Celia again?]

[What is she doing here? Hasn’t she given up yet?]

[Lyra, don’t agree to see her!]

Before I could say anything, I heard a commotion out front. It turned out Celia had barged in on her own.

She was dressed impeccably that day-even more so than she usually was. She wore a white tailored suit and had her hair twisted up, with not a single strand out of place.

When she saw me sitting in the garden eating strawberries, a flash of resentment crossed her face. She forced out, “Ms. West, long time no see.”

berry in my mouth. “Hi.”
