When I woke up.

I could hear accusing voices from the hospital hallway:

A man’s voice interrupted:

“That’s enough, Mom. Go home. This is a hospital.”

“I’m leaving then. Let me know when you’re almost home tonight, and I’ll have Cassie go over to take care of you!”

That was how I found out it was my mother-in-law, Evelyn, who arranged for her favorite, Cassie, to “take care of Julian

while I was away.

“Your mother likes Cassie, so go live with your mother and Cassie. Let’s divorce’

“I just want the children.”

Leo, standing to the side, hid behind his father. I tried to reach for his hand.

“Which room are you staying in? I’ll go help you pack right now!”

‘As for you move into the maid’s quarters!”

Pretending not to see the mocking smile on Cassie’s face. I turned to pack my things.

The bottle of painkillers accidentally rolled onto the floor.

Julian bent down to pick it up: “What medication is this? Who is it for?”

Before I could stop myself. I blurted out: ‘It’s just Maya’s Vitamin C.”

Cassie giggled and pushed Julian out:

“Why is a man interfering while a woman packs? Go on out, I’ll help Elena.”

I took the chance to grab the bottle back.

Though Julian looked suspicious, he allowed himself to be pushed out of the room.
