I gave him a gentle look:

“I just want you to be happy with her. I’m not dwelling on anything. Don’t think too much into it.”

Julian let out a defeated sigh, looking at me helplessly.

Leo came over and took my hand:

“Mom, now that you’re back, just live happily with Dad.”

“I did say I liked Auntie Cassie before, but I like you too, Mom.”

“Mom, I don’t think you should keep making a scene like this either.”

A sudden, stabbing pain shot through my upper abdomen.

My hands trembled from the pain. I turned into my room, closed the door, and immediately swallowed two painkillers.

The pain has been getting more frequent lately.

By my count, I have less than two weeks left…

With a loud bang, the bedroom door was kicked open.

I quickly hid the pill bottle under my pillow.

Julian entered and saw my awkward movements, as if I were hiding something.

A flash of suspicion crossed his eyes.

But his anger had already blinded him.

He threw the box of Trojans onto the bed, pinning me down with one hand while frantically tearing at my clothes with the other.

“You’re doing this on purpose to provoke me, aren’t you?”

“I want to see exactly what it takes for you to act normal!”

No matter how he tore at me, I didn’t resist, nor did I show any expression.

He finally couldn’t take it:

“Fine! You want her to move in! I’ll have her move in right now!!”

I replied calmly:

“Like I said, as long as you’re happy.”

He nodded through gritted teeth, grabbed his jacket, and stormed out.

Leo walked over, confused: “Mom, what are you even trying to achieve?”

I didn’t answer, just pushed him out and locked the door.

It only took two or three days.

Julian drove his high, black Cadillac Escalade back, carrying Cassie, her daughter, and their suitcases as they moved in.

I sat in my second-floor room, listening to the sound of them moving luggage.

Distant memories began to surface.

It was a gray, overcast day just like today.

I had finished a prenatal check-up alone and came home early.

I was still feeling envious of the attentive husbands I’d seen accompanying their wives at the clinic.

Then I saw the two of them, naked, passionately entangled on the living room sofa.

I rushed over and ripped the blanket off Cassie.

My hand, raised to deliver a slap, was caught mid-air by Julian.

“Do you have no shame? Bullying such a vulnerable woman. I won’t let anyone hurt Cassie!”

Like a madwoman, I hit them over and over with the medical file in my hand.

Ignoring the sharp edges of the folder that cut his face, Julian just held the crying woman tightly in his arms.

When I was finally too exhausted to continue, I slumped onto the floor, gasping for air.

Tears had already blurred my vision.

I watched helplessly as they rustled into their clothes in front of me.

Then five-year-old Leo pushed the door open.

Seeing his Auntie Cassie wiping away tears, he ran to her:

“Auntie Cassie, did Mom yell at you? Mom is so mean. Don’t cry, I’ll wipe your tears.”

“Auntie, I hate Mom too. I’ll take you out to play so she can’t yell at you anymore.”

My lower abdomen tightened. I couldn’t catch my breath, and clutching my stomach, I fell straight backward.

Julian’s cold voice echoed in my ears:

“Stop faking it. I’m sick of you using your pregnancy as an excuse. I won’t be manipulated by you this time!”

“Every woman gets pregnant. Are you the only one who’s fragile?”

I felt a warm liquid flowing down my legs, and an agonizing, soul-tearing pain spread through my body.

“It hurts… it hurts…” I had lost almost all my strength.

Yet I saw Julian walking out, his arm around Cassie:

“Don’t be afraid, Cassie.”

As my consciousness faded, I heard Leo’s crying voice:

“Why is there so much blood?”

“Mom, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me!”
