The Last Night with My Sugar Daddy Chapter 10

Chloe’s POV

I received a call from the police right after stepping off the plane, then found a quiet spot to cooperate with them remotely and complete my statement.

Before leaving the airport, I tossed my old SIM card into the trash can.

Only occasionally, in the dead of night, would my thoughts quietly slip back to those five years of grinding in New York.

Regardless of the complicated emotions attached to it, that period of my life had truly forged me into who I am.

At first, whenever New York was mentioned, Julian’s aloof face would inevitably surface in my mind.

Love and hate were like two tides twisted into a tight rope, constantly yanking me from my dreams in the early hours, leaving me to stare blankly at the pitch–black ceiling until dawn.

For the longest time, I felt that this man would be an insurmountable hurdle for the rest of my life.

I thought that just the mere thought of him would always make my heart violently clench.

That was until half a year later, when I caught a glimpse of a man’s back in a bar that looked strikingly similar to Julian.

Even the way he raised his glass to drink carried that same familiar

arc.

I thought my mood would plummet to rock bottom, but to my surprise, my heart remained completely unruffled. I could even turn my head and continue laughing with my friends.

At that moment, I realized that even if the real Julian were standing right in front of me, I could calmly look at him and say, “Long time no see.”

It turned out that I had already quietly stepped out of the shadows of the past

A year passed, and I never expected to cross paths with Julian again.

It all started because my boutique was thriving on word–of–mouth, which thoroughly pissed off a local chain clothing brand.

First, they hired paid trolls to flood the internet with fabricated negative reviews about my store, spreading rumors of poor clothing quality and terrible customer service.

But they underestimated how fiercely I would fight back, I stayed up all night gathering evidence and slapped them with a lawsuit.

After that farce, their despicable tactics were exposed to the public, and their business took a massive nosedive.

I thought the whole ordeal was finally behind me, never anticipating that they would resort to such extreme measures for revenge.

That evening, after closing up shop, I had just turned into the alley leading to my house when five or six burly men wielding wooden bats suddenly emerged from the shadows, blocking my path.

I instinctively reached for the phone in my bag, but before my fingers could even brush it, one of them snatched it away and smashed it onto the ground.

As they closed in on me step by step, right at the critical moment, a familiar figure suddenly dashed out from the mouth of the alley and

“Don’t be afraid.

I’m too tough to die…”

Even as he was lifted onto a stretcher and loaded into the ambulance, I still felt like this was all just a dream.
