I Told My Stepbrother to Kidnap His Crush, So He Kidnapped Me Chapter 03

Blake really was a good brother.

He was studying abroad. I never saw him, never really talked to him.

But he sent money. Every holiday, every birthday—a big chunk of cash would hit my account.

I loved him. Sure, we weren’t close. But who cares? I was very close to his money.

And once the money was familiar, getting familiar with him when he came back was easy.

He returned two years later. I’d just finished high school and gotten into a local university in Westbrook City.

The day I started my freshman year, Mom and my stepdad were on vacation abroad.

The plan was for the estate manager to drive me to campus, but Blake happened to be back in town, so the job fell to him.

I had a ton of luggage.

The volunteer assigned to help new students was busy with someone else, so Blake ended up hauling everything to my dorm room.

Thank god guys were allowed in the girls’ dorms on move-in day.

My brand-new roommate Chloe Bennett looked at us. “Quinn, is this your boyfriend? You guys look so good together. Finally, a pretty girl with an actual hot guy instead of some troll.”

I said, “…He’s my brother.”

Chloe immediately corrected herself. “Oh! That’s why you’re both gorgeous.”

Another roommate Mia Collins popped her head out from unpacking. “You don’t look alike, though. Do you take after different parents?”

That wasn’t wrong. I explained, “Blended family. He’s my stepbrother.”

Megan Reed, who’d shown up late, said, “No blood relation? Then you could totally pull off the whole step-sibling thing.”

I blinked. Wow. Rude.

First day of school. We just met. Not the kind of joke you make.

Anyway.

Aside from Megan blurting out offensive things sometimes, they were all fine.

Once you got to know her, she wasn’t mean. Just had no filter.

When she realized she’d messed up, she apologized.

She actually apologized for that one too.

I got through freshman year pretty smoothly.

Sophomore year, the school let students live off campus.

Coincidentally, Mia switched majors and had to move to a different campus.

Chole was a senior now and doing an internship off-campus.

And Megan lived five hundred feet from school, so she went home.

I was left alone. I could stay and meet new roommates, but the dorms were tiny.

So I moved out.

Blake had this huge penthouse nearby—easily a few thousand square feet, all to himself. Total waste.

Time for his sister to help him out! We’d gotten really close during the year he’d been back.

Weekend hangouts, dinners together, sometimes he’d even pick me up from school for dinner if he got off work early.

We were the best siblings ever.

I happily moved in and picked the south-facing bedroom right next to his.

The place was huge, so being next door didn’t mean we bothered each other.

Living together meant we saw way more of each other.

The best part? I finally cleared a bunch of two-player games off my backlog.

He seemed kind of homebody-ish.

Every time I was home, he was home too.

I asked him once, “Don’t you ever go out?”

He glanced at me. “I’m staying with you.”

I’m not a kid who needs company.

But I wasn’t about to say no to it, either.

After spending more time together, I started noticing things.

Lately, Blake was acting really weird.
