I Told My Stepbrother to Kidnap His Crush, So He Kidnapped Me Chapter 02

Raising me alone wasn’t easy for my mom.

After we left him, I kept my head down. Played the good girl at school and at home.

My mom was happy. So was I.

Once we got rid of that useless deadweight, I stopped getting hit. And my mom’s career took off. She climbed from regional manager to head office executive.

We moved from a small town called Oak Creek to Westbrook City.

I got better schools, saw more of the world.

Honestly? That guy was holding us back.

We settled into Westbrook and years passed quietly.

I grew up. One day in middle school, I came home to find my mom grinning at her phone.

“Who are you texting?” I asked.

“Shoo, kid. None of your business.”

She was acting weird.

Sure enough, not long after, she showed up with some guy to pick me up from school.

We went to an amusement park. Then out for a big dinner.

While he paid the bill, my mom asked me, “Do you like him?”

Her eyes were hopeful. Nervous.

I got it. “If you like him, Mom, I’m happy for you.”

She ruffled my hair. “You’re something else.”

By the time I was a freshman in high school, she got married.

The wedding was huge. Her new husband was rich. He spent freely on her. Treated her well.

And most importantly, she actually liked him.

Too bad I was too old to be a flower girl.

I sat in the audience, sighing about it.

The person next to me asked what was wrong.

“I’m bummed I can’t be my mom’s flower girl,” I said.

“Yeah,” he said. “Same. I can’t be my dad’s anything.”

Wait. What?

I turned my head.

And saw a face even better looking than my father’s in his prime.

And my bio dad was seriously hot—that’s how he fooled my mom for so long.

This guy was better. Looking closer, I saw the resemblance to my new stepdad.

Oh right. I forgot to mention—stepdad’s handsome too. Distinguished, elegant, the whole package.

My mom’s a sucker for a pretty face.

I realized. “You’re Mr. Harris’s son—the one who went abroad?”

He gave me a cool glance. “You’re supposed to call me ‘brother.’”

“Okay.”

No.

He didn’t seem surprised. Instead, he handed me a debit card.

“The PIN is Mom and Dad’s wedding date.” Like he thought I might not get it, he added, “Which is today.”

“Welcome gift, little sister.”

I’m a sucker for money. “Thank you, brother! You’re literally the best brother in the whole world!”
