Her Best Friend Bragged Online About Having A Secret Family With Her Man Chapter 03

My stomach churned. I rushed into the bathroom, clutching the toilet as I heaved violently.

Nothing came up except for a mouthful of bitter bile.

I looked at my reflection in the mirror—eyes bloodshot, face pale—and suddenly realized that the last four years of stability and happiness were nothing but a soap bubble.

It looked radiant and dreamlike, but now that it had popped, nothing was left.

I didn’t cry.

Tears seemed too cheap in the face of such extreme rage and shock.

I picked up my phone again and went back to Cassie’s burner account, searching for clues in the photos where faces weren’t shown.

In one picture, there was a half-open window. Outside, the spire of a building was faintly visible.

It was the landmark of the neighboring city, Oak City—The Prism Spire.

In the corner of another photo was the sign of a very distinctive local coffee chain.

In yet another, the stone lions at a residential complex entrance were partially captured.

In less than half an hour, I had locked onto Cassie’s specific location: Waverly Estates, a high-end luxury community in Oak City.

It was less than two miles away from a large theme park.

I didn’t hesitate for a second. I changed into a set of athletic gear for easier movement, grabbed my car keys and all my IDs, and walked into the garage.

The moment I started the engine, my mind was exceptionally clear.

I didn’t want to scream questions over the phone, nor did I want to hear his practiced lies.

I had to see it for myself.

I had to see the man whose life I fought to save, and the friend I had treated with nothing but sincerity.

I had to see how they had trampled my dignity behind my back to build their “happy family of three.”

My hands gripped the steering wheel so hard my knuckles turned white.

Images from the last decade flashed through my mind like a movie reel.

When he was sixteen, Julian had been beaten by his father until he was bleeding. He hid in my guest room, clutching my sleeve like a wounded puppy, saying, “Sera Vance, you’re all I have left.”

When he was twenty-two, he knelt on one knee with a diamond ring, tears shimmering in his eyes: “Sera, I will love you with my life for as long as I live.”

Just last week, while he was helping me blow-dry my hair, he said tenderly, “Honey, let’s have a baby. A beautiful little princess who looks just like you.”

And on the other side, there was Cassie in our dorm room, beating her chest and telling me, “Sera, if anyone ever dares to mess with you, I’ll be the first one to rip them apart!”

There she was at the airport before “leaving,” hugging me while crying like a willow in the rain: “Sera, you have to be happy.”

These images intertwined, finally freezing into that photo of intertwined hands on the internet and that stinging sentence: Her husband visits us all the time now. The three of us are a very happy family.

Julian, I never knew you were such a talented actor.

I arrived at the entrance of the Oak City theme park ahead of time and rested for a bit.

The next morning, Cassie’s burner account updated.

Good morning! Heading to the theme park! Put the baby in his super cute bear outfit today.

The attached photo was a selfie of her in the passenger seat. The background was the interior of Julian’s familiar black Cadillac Escalade.

I waited at the entrance like a hunter, watching for their arrival.
