A thousand questions swirled in my mind. 

But no matter what I said, my mother only repeated the same line. 

“Lorette, your only job right now is to get well.” 

“Everything else will be clear once you’re better.” 

In the days that followed, Andrew still never came to see me. 

It felt deeply wrong. 

I knew Andrew had seen the crash. 

Even in my coma, I’d heard his shouts, filled with urgency and 

agony. 

I knew he loved that woman deeply. 

But I refused to believe he could be so cruel as to never visit 

me, knowing I’d been in a severe car crash. 

Especially not in the hospital where he worked. 

Even if he didn’t want to see me, he had to come to work. 

Why hadn’t I seen him once? 

I wanted answers, but my parents refused to speak of it. 

They still came to the hospital every day, but their eyes were 

always red. 

They never mentioned Andrew or that woman, only talking about my recovery or trivial neighborhood gossip. 

Two weeks later, I could move around on my own again. 

One morning, I got out of bed to stretch my legs alone. 

As I passed the nurses‘ station, I overheard two young nurses whispering, their voices full of regret. 

“I can’t believe Dr. Leto, such a brilliant young man, would actually…” 

“Shh, keep your voice down!” 

The other nurse, Nurse Davis, spotted me and quickly cut her off, looking embarrassed and staring at the floor. 

Seeing their reaction, my heart clenched. 

I hurried over, my voice tight with anxiety, “Was the Dr. Leto you were just talking about Andrew Leto? What happened to him?” 

Looking at my pale face, the two nurses exchanged a glance, their eyes darting away. 

“Mrs. Leto, you… you haven’t fully recovered yet. You can’t 

get too upset.” 

“You should go back to your room and rest.” 

With that, Nurse Davis stepped forward, trying to guide me.

But I stood my ground, staring at her stubbornly, “Tell me. What exactly happened to Andrew?” 

The air went still for a few seconds. 

Nurse Davis sighed and whispered, “Dr. Leto…. he resigned.” 

Resigned? 

So that was why he hadn’t come to my room in all these days? 

But how was that possible? 

I thought for a moment, my face full of confusion. 

“Why would he resign out of nowhere?” 

The two nurses exchanged a complicated look, but said nothing more. 

After a moment, Nurse Davis sighed helplessly, “Mrs. Leto, you should ask your family for the full details.” 

“We’re not at liberty to discuss it.” 

With that, the two of them hurried away. 

I stumbled back to my ward, my mind blank. 

My mother was just coming in with breakfast. 

Seeing my expression, she immediately understood, put down the food, and walked over, “Lorette, why did you go out alone?” 

I looked at my mother, my voice heavy, “Mom, what exactly are you hiding from me? Why didn’t you tell me Andrew resigned?” 

“What happened? Why would he leave his job for no reason?” 

My mother’s face turned pale instantly. 

Her lips trembled, and she stammered for a long time, unable 

to say a word. 

But the more she avoided it, the more curious I became. 

“Mom, tell me. What’s going on?” 

I almost begged. “As Andrew’s wife, I have a right to know everything about him!” 

My mother’s eyes filled with tears, brimming over. 

She took a deep breath, helped me sit on the bed, squeezed my hands tightly, and spoke cautiously. 

“Lorette, I can tell you. But you have to promise me you’ll stay calm after you hear it.” 

“You’re not fully recovered yet. You can’t handle too much shock.” 

I nodded, staring at her intently, desperate for her to finally answer my questions. 

Under my unwavering gaze, my mother’s voice shook as she said slowly. 

“Andrew… he didn’t resign.” 

“He… he killed himself.”
