Life Erased, the Mafia Queen Returns Chapter 02

He seemed happy enough.

After I got Jasper to sleep, I pulled out Vincent’s number.

I hesitated for a long time, but I didn’t dial.

Vincent and I had been apart for six years.

At first, we thought we could fight fate.

Back then, my family suddenly went bankrupt. The De Santis family broke off the engagement behind Vincent’s back, arranging him and Ivy instead.

Vincent risked everything for me.

He broke off his engagement with Ivy, even giving up his claim as heir. He was punished by his grandfather, Godfather Seth, five times.

For half a month, he couldn’t even get out of bed. The scars on his back still sent shivers down the spine.

Even then, when he saw me crying, he endured the pain, a lazy smile tugging at his lips as he whispered soft, teasing words to comfort me.

I thought everything would be fine.

The bankruptcy would be fine. Vincent would be fine. The future would be fine.

But it wasn’t.

We married in secret, hiding it from everyone.

Maybe it was because of his unwavering devotion. Once I was pregnant, I never thought about giving up the child.

Until the night before I was due, I had called him over and over, wincing with pain, but he never answered.

A neighbor sent me to the hospital.

When I woke up, the Vincent I saw was cold and distant.

I didn’t understand how someone could change so drastically in such a short time, until the look in his eyes was all unfamiliar disdain.

Ivy came to see me once.

From her, I learned the truth about the world.

Because of a mistake in the system’s timing, the female lead, Ivy, arrived too late.

By then, Vincent had already fallen for someone else.

Me.

The supporting character who was never supposed to be loved.

As a result, Vincent’s feelings became reversed.

The more he had loved me before, the more he now hated me.

Ivy’s gaze was pitiful and full of sympathy. Before leaving, she whispered, “Have you thought about what will happen to your child in the future?”

I froze, completely dazed.

I didn’t know who I should hate anymore.

Should I hate Vincent? But he didn’t even understand his own feelings.

Should I hate fate? But what good would it do? Nothing would change.

At that moment, my parents were on their way to the hospital when they got into a car accident. They slipped into comas, possibly for life, becoming nothing more than plants.

I was on the verge of collapse.

Ivy’s words repeated endlessly in my mind, and all I could feel was how exhausting this cruel world was.

I pushed open the window and looked down, and suddenly, the child by the bedside began to wail loudly.

Half-dazed, I thought, if I die, what will happen to him?

Would the world even allow him to exist?

Would Ivy mistreat him?

Or would he, like me, be rejected by Vincent, silently endure countless grievances, and quietly disappear, leaving everyone’s expectations unfulfilled?

My whole body shook.

I rushed to his bedside, my hands trembling as I gripped his small neck, gradually tightening my hold.

I wanted to take him away.

But then he stopped crying, his red-rimmed eyes staring up at me with a pleading expression, as if no matter where he went, he wanted to stay with his mother.

Until the nurse and a bodyguard rushed in, realizing something was wrong, and roughly pushed me aside.

I looked down at my shaking hands, and only then did I realize how ridiculous my actions had been, influenced by Ivy’s suggestion.

News of the incident quickly reached the De Santis family. Don Seth personally demanded to see me and began contesting custody of the child.

I didn’t ask for anything.

I let go of the Vincent who had rejected me. I gave up custody, signing the divorce papers without hesitation.

I only took two million.

I had been young and carefree, the Principessa of the Wyatt family, casually spending millions without a second thought. Yet now, a few thousand for hospital bills had left me with nowhere to turn.

Vincent never appeared.

He hated me so much that he wouldn’t even look at me. So I accepted it.

I let go of the tangled feelings and even gave up the child.

I spared him, and I spared myself.

Until a soft little bundle dove into my arms. That’s when I came back to myself.

Jasper hummed softly with his eyes closed, curling up snugly as if he had finally found a comfortable position.

He gripped the hem of my clothes tightly, as if he feared that I would vanish the moment he opened his eyes.

I stared at that innocent, tender little face and couldn’t help but sigh softly.

If he knew that the mother who gave birth to him had once wanted to strangle him, would he still have come to me?

He would probably avoid me like the plague.
