Ethan finally agreed to the divorce.

His only condition was to meet Jasper in person.

The three of us got into the car. Jasper took the front passenger seat, while Ethan sat in the back, his

expression grim, though he remained silent the whole time.

I was about to start the car when a red SUV suddenly swerved out right in front of us.

I recognized it immediately as Chloe’s car-the one Ethan had bought for her. We’d had a huge fight over it

back then.

It was a narrow side lane, leaving me no room to dodge.

Through the windshield, I could make out Chloe’s contorted, raging face as she screamed.

“Go die!”

In that split second, Ethan lunged forward from the back seat, clearly trying to shield me.

Jasper was fastened tight by his seatbelt, unable to move.

My own instant reaction was to throw myself straight into Jasper’s arms.

Boom!

Chloe slammed hard on the gas, and the two vehicles crashed together with brutal force.

In the final instant, all I felt was someone’s hands cradling my head. Then, everything went black.

I came to staring up at a plain white ceiling.

The sharp smell of hospital disinfectant slowly drifted into my senses.

“You’re awake?”

A nurse glanced over and replaced my IV drip with practiced ease.

“You were in a car accident, remember?

You got off lightly with just a few scrapes. Your husband and your brother both went out of their way to

protect you. Later let me know if you feel dizzy or nauseous, so we can rule out a concussion.”

I tensed up at once.

“Where’s Jasper?

The young man in the tracksuit?”

“Oh your brother’s more seriously injured,” the nurse said as she took my temperature.

He threw his whole upper body over to shield your head. He fractured two fingers and suffered a head knock,

though it’s nothing critical. Does he play piano for a living?”

I shook my head softly, biting my lower lip.

“What about the other man?”
