The Forgotten Princess of the Pack Chapter 02

The Forgotten Princess of the Pack Chapter 02

It was the morning of the second day after I was locked in the basement.

At last, my mother, Helena, remembered me.

“Grayson,” she said, “that should be enough by now. I think Felicity has learned her lesson. Let her out. If this goes on too long, I’m afraid she’ll start resenting Vivienne.”

Grayson frowned slightly. “Fine. Let’s let it go this time. I am her older brother, after all. I can teach her slowly later.”

Dad nodded in agreement beside him. “What’s the big deal? If she throws a tantrum, just buy her something and call it compensation.”

Vivienne suddenly let out a soft laugh. “Speaking of compensation, Grayson promised to take me shopping yesterday. You’re not going back on your word, are you?”

Grayson tapped her forehead lightly. “How could I forget? I’ll go with you right now, all right?”

Mom looked at Vivienne with indulgent affection. “I’ll go too. Didn’t you say you liked that custom necklace I have?”

“I ordered one for you as well. Today, your father can be our personal driver and carry our bags for us.”

Dad smiled and stood up first. The family that had just been discussing whether to let me out of the basement forgot about me in an instant.

They went off happily to the mall.

I followed behind them, drifting like a shadow.

Vivienne browsed and bought whatever she liked. Grayson and Dad paid with smiling faces. Mom carefully adjusted Vivienne’s clothes at her side. They looked like a warm, loving family.

When they reached a doll shop, Grayson unconsciously slowed to a stop.

Vivienne immediately looped her arm through his and asked softly, “Grayson, what’s wrong? Why did you stop?”

He paused, then replied quietly, “Nothing. I just remembered that I once promised Felicity I’d buy her a little rabbit plush.”

Vivienne’s expression changed at once. She puffed out her cheeks and said, “I knew it. You like Felicity more than me.”

She turned her back to him, pretending to be upset.

Grayson hurried to coax her. “How could that be? Vivienne, you’re the only little princess in my heart.”

Just then, his phone rang, cutting him off.

He answered it. On the other end, Maggie’s voice sounded anxious.

“Alpha, Miss Felicity hasn’t made any noise since yesterday. I’m a little worried about her.”

Grayson frowned impatiently. “What’s there to worry about? She just drank some mango juice. Is she going to die from that?”

Maggie spoke timidly. “I… I’m just afraid Miss Felicity might really be dead. Otherwise, how could there be no movement at all?”

Grayson grew more and more irritated. “Enough. Don’t bother with her. She’s doing this on purpose, trying to gain sympathy. Maggie, how many times has this happened already? Haven’t you learned your lesson?”

He hung up decisively, then glanced once more at the rabbit plush inside the shop before turning away.

When I was first brought back to the Silverclaw Pack, my mind had been a blur.

The pack house was both grand and warm. Mom had prepared a soft, comfortable bed for me, yet I couldn’t fall asleep no matter how I turned.

Whenever I closed my eyes, all I saw was my adoptive father’s twisted, terrifying face.

When Grayson found out, he handed me a small rabbit plush.

“Felicity, do you remember this? I gave it to you when you were little. Back then, you had to hug it every night to sleep. If you can’t fall asleep, try holding it.”

My eyes filled with tears instantly as I clutched the plush tightly to my chest.

Later, Vivienne cut that little rabbit to pieces with her own hands.

I ran to confront her in a rage, but she burst into tears instead, looking utterly wronged.

“It’s all my fault,” she cried. “But… but that’s because you said I stole your painting for the competition and even tore up my award certificate.”

“That painting was clearly mine. I was just angry in the moment, so I cut your plush to vent my frustration. I’m sorry. It’s all my fault.”

Grayson immediately pulled her into his arms, his face full of distress. Dad and Mom surrounded her, comforting her as well.

I ran out of the house crying.

Grayson chased after me. “Felicity, can you stop being so childish? Vivienne has already been more than tolerant with you.”

Looking at the darkening expression on his face, the words I wanted to say got stuck in my throat.

Then I whispered, “Then… then can you buy me another rabbit plush?”

Grayson’s expression softened slightly. He raised his hand as if to pat my head, but in the end, he did nothing.

Back then, I thought I was allowed to be willful once in a while, relying on family affection.

Later, I realized how arrogant that belief had been.
