My Bully Mocked Me in Front of the CEO So I Destroyed Her in Seven Languages Chapter 14

My phone buzzed.

Caleb.

“Did Rowan from Flagship reach out to you?”

“She did. Why are you setting this up for me?”

“Because you need to get out of that shell.”

“You don’t know me.”

“I know your parents were diplomats. I know the whole story.”

My grip on the phone tightened.

“You’ve been digging into my past?”

“I do my homework before I partner with anyone. Hazel, your parents were legends. You don’t have to hide in a corner just to stay out of their shadow.”

I stayed silent.

“Just check out the Flagship project. The Silk Road is where your parents spent their lives. Maybe it’s time you walked

it for yourself.”

He hung up.

Mochi jumped onto the sill and nudged my hand.

I looked out the window at the city and my apartment with the garbage heater.

I sat with that for a long time.

The next day, I went into Joseph’s office.

“Mr. Harrison, I need two months off.”

“What for?”

“A documentary crew wants me as a translation consultant. I’ll be traveling through the Middle East and Europe.”

“You definitely put in the work.”

“But you didn’t even have to try, and you’re already miles above me. Eight languages. How is that fair?”

“It’s thanks to my parents. They paid for those languages with their lives.”

Wendy stared at me for three long seconds.

Then she turned and walked away.

That was the last time we ever spoke in that building.

The day before I flew out, I dropped Mochi off at Chloe’s.

“Don’t worry, Mochi’s in good hands!”

“Don’t go overboard with the treats. He’ll get fat.”

“I got it, I got it! Hazel, send me pics once you’re out there! I want to see some camels!”

“Will do.”

At the airport, I ran into the last person I expected.

Caleb.

He was in casual gear-first time I’d ever seen the guy without a suit.

“You’re on this flight, too?”

“East Ridge has some business in Dubai.” He glanced at me. “Isn’t Dubai the first stop for your documentary?”

“It is.”

“What a coincidence.”

“Quite the coincidence indeed.”

The corner of his mouth twitched-that was his version of a smile.

After we boarded, I took the window seat, and he sat right next to me.

“Business class is half empty. Why are you back here?”

“I booked an economy ticket.”

He gave me a look.

“That inheritance your parents left you-”

“You know about that, too?”

“That law firm has worked with us. Mr. Langley mentioned a client who refused to touch an estate. It’s a small

industry.”

“So what, the whole world knows?”

“Not the whole world. Just me.”

I turned to look at him.

He was staring straight ahead, totally neutral.

But those words were anything but neutral.
