She Became The Perfect Wife So She Could Disappear Forever Chapter 04

Justin came to find me, holding the school withdrawal form in his hand.

“Mom, I’m submitting the form tomorrow. I’m going to France with Maeve to study art,” he asked, “Don’t you have anything to say?”

“Have a nice trip,” I replied.

He froze, then exploded in anger, “That’s all you have to say? I’m your son! I’m quitting school! I’m leaving this family! Aren’t you going to stop me?”

“You’re old enough to make your own decisions about your education,” I said quietly. “I won’t stand in your way.”

“Seriously?” He laughed bitterly, “You weren’t like this before!”

“I was wrong before,” I said. “It won’t happen again.”

His eyes turned red, and he tore the withdrawal form into pieces, throwing them on the ground. “You won! Happy now?”

He stormed out, slamming the door.

Later that evening, Dominic knocked on the attic door. “Get ready, you’re coming with me.”

“Where to?”

“You’ll find out when we get there,” he replied. “Callie, this is your last chance. If you admit your mistake, I’ll pretend the past three months never happened.”

I stood up, “Let’s go.”

He didn’t move, his eyes fixed on me, and then he sneered, “Fine, you brought this upon yourself.”

The car drove for a long time, taking us to Haven Hill Cemetery.

My heart sank.

We got out of the car, and Dominic walked ahead, with me following behind.

“Do you know why I brought you here today?” Dominic turned to look at me.

I remained silent.

“Maeve’s been having nightmares every night for the past two weeks. She went to see a psychic, and he said she’s been afflicted by a restless little spirit.”

A chill ran through me. “What do you mean?”

“It means this cursed child shouldn’t make it to the New Year,” he exhaled smoke, taking out his phone. “I’ve already contacted someone. They’ll be here in ten minutes. We’ll move the gravestone, take out the ashes, and perform a ritual to put Maeve’s mind at ease.”

“Dominic!” My voice trembled. “That’s your daughter!”

“Just a fetus that never even drew breath,” he shot back.

I looked at the gravestone with Angelica Vance’s name engraved on it, my vision beginning to blur. “She was your own flesh and blood…”

“So what?” He stepped closer. “Compared to a dead child, Maeve, who’s alive, is more important.”

“Callie, choose. Are you going to keep fighting me, or do you want to save this headstone?”

The night wind grew colder.

I heard the sound of a car engine in the distance, getting closer.

Several men got out of the car, carrying tools.

“Mr. Vance, is it here?”

“Yes,” Dominic replied, not looking at me. “Get to work.”

“No!”

I lunged toward the gravestone, but Dominic grabbed me, holding me tightly in his arms.

“Let go of me! Dominic, let go of me!”

“Are you going to admit you were wrong?” he whispered in my ear. “Are you going to behave?”

The sound of a shovel striking the gravestone echoed harshly in the night.

One strike, two strikes.

The stone tombstone cracked.

“She did nothing wrong!” I struggled like mad, “If you hate me, come at me, don’t touch her!”

“What I hate is you like this!” he growled. “Callie, I want the old you back! The you who would cry, throw tantrums, and get jealous! Not this cold, lifeless monster!”

The gravestone fell.

Shards of broken stone scattered across the ground, revealing a small urn underneath.

A man bent down to pick it up.

“Don’t!”

I mustered all my strength, breaking free and throwing myself onto the urn.

Dominic stood nearby, watching quietly.

“Take her away,” he said.

Two men approached and tried to pull me away, but I clung to the urn, refusing to let go.

In the struggle, I suddenly felt a sharp taste in my throat.

The next second, dark red blood sprayed across the white urn.

The world fell silent.

All sounds faded, leaving only the wind and the sound of a notification in my mind.

[System Notification: Charge complete, time-space jump program about to initiate.]
