Whispers of The Marked Omega Chapter 09

“Jade, you really don’t have to do this…” His eyes grew red-rimmed.

I went on calmly. “You are allowed to visit Leo. Once every week, no more than two hours each

time.”

He froze for a second, then broke into a bright relieved smile. “Really? You’ll let me see him?”

“He has every right to know who his own father is.”

“Thank you… thank you so much!”

I took Leo’s hand and headed upstairs.

Standing on the third-floor landing, I glanced back over my shoulder.

Enzo was still standing there far below, staring upward at me, looking just like a huge lonely hound abandoned by its owner.

He shouted up toward me. “Jade! I’ll wait for you! I’m willing to wait even for an eternity!”

I closed the front door firmly behind me.

A month later, I went to get the old chest tattoo removed. The pain was far worse than the day it was carved, yet I endured it all in silence. Watching the faded words slowly vanish from my skin filled me with a strange sense of peaceful relief.

I used the interest earned from Leo’s trust fund to cover my tuition fees, and little by little, my life finally got back on track.

Every single Saturday, Enzo would take Leo out to parks, museums and zoos, trying his hardest to fulfill his duties as a father in his own quiet way.

Sometimes Leo would ask me softly, “Mommy, why won’t you forgive daddy and let us be a real family again?”

I ruffled his hair gently. “Some deep wounds can never fully heal with just a simple apology.”

“But daddy tries so hard. He always sends you his regards and leaves me all kinds of snacks. He stayed up all night taking care of you when you were sick.”

“I know all that.”

Yet my heart had already turned cold and died completely seven years ago.

Three years later, I paid off the last installment of my debt to him. Enzo called me in utter shock.

“You truly never needed to do this.”

“I had to. Now we are even at last.”

He stayed quiet for a long while before speaking again. “Can I still come see Leo?”

“He is your son. Of course you can.”

“Then… is there still any chance I can love you again?”

“Enzo,” I said firmly at last, “move forward with your own life. We both deserve brand new starts. There is no longer any place left for you in my home or my heart.”

“I will keep waiting. If I can never earn your forgiveness, I will wait until the day I draw my last

breath.”

I ended the call quietly.

Outside the window, warm spring sunlight spilled all across the quiet streets.

Leo sat in the living room playing the piano, the soft gentle melody of Für Elise floating gently through the air.

All the past agony, humiliation and desperate despair had faded away entirely, just like the old scars upon my chest.

I still had not forgiven him.

But I was finally ready to embrace a brand new life of my own.
