In the afternoon, Vance Enterprises released an official statement.

The statement said that the shares in Eleanor Sterling’s name were the result of joint post-marital management, that the company respected internal family negotiations, and called for the public to protect the minor.

Not a single word insulted me.

But every sentence confirmed that I was hoarding Vance property and bullying a child.

Immediately following, a hospital also issued a clarification, claiming that the medical records from years ago were authentic and that Mrs. Sterling indeed had the relevant reproductive health

diagnosis.

Beatrice Vance sat for an interview.

She sat in a mahogany chair at the Vance estate, her face full of exhaustion.

“I’m not forcing her. I just feel for the child. The Vances have been the sole heirs for generations; someone must inherit. We didn’t shun her for her poor health, but she can’t destroy Leo’s life just because of her own regrets.”

I turned off the video.

Margaret sat across from me and pushed two documents forward.

“They’re moving fast,” Margaret said. “The hospital is willing to back them up, which means the person who forged the report is still in the system.”

I picked up the pen.

As I signed, the nib glided across the paper.

Back then, my hand was shaking so violently that Beatrice impatiently pressed down on the back of my hand.

She said, “You’re so dramatic just to sign a name, no wonder you can’t have children.”

Now, I was signing again.

I was signing the authorization for the investigation.

“Investigate,” I said. “Start from the registration window.”

Margaret nodded.

“One more thing. The paper cup Leo Vance left at the meeting has been sealed by security according to protocol. We can’t perform a private DNA test directly, but we can apply for a minor’s rights

investigation. If they submit a paternity report, we will demand a verification of the chain of

custody for the samples.”

I looked at the brooch.

“Chloe will submit it.”

“Are you sure?”

“Positive.”

She was like that in my last life.

The more guilty a person is, the more they like to present a stamped piece of paper first.

On the third day, Chloe started a livestream.

She wore no heavy makeup, holding Leo in front of the camera; the child was clutching a teddy bear.

“I don’t know why Mrs. Sterling is pushing us like this,” she said, sobbing. “I’ve already taken Leo for a DNA test. The results prove that Leo is Richard’s child. I’m not asking for the Vance money; I just want my child to be recognized.”

On the screen, she displayed a DNA report.

The conclusion read: Supports Richard Vance as the biological father of Leo Vance.

The comment section exploded instantly.

I sat in Margaret’s office and watched the stream.

Margaret’s assistant whispered, “She used a private lab; the sample source isn’t disclosed.”

Margaret asked me, “Should we strike back now?”

I shook my head.

“Not yet.”

Richard called soon after.

I picked up.

His voice was suppressed with rage.

“Eleanor, are you satisfied? The results are out. Chloe was forced into a livestream to prove herself because of you, and Leo will be pointed at for the rest of his school years.”

“Who submitted the samples?”

“What other flaw are you trying to find?”

“I’m asking: who submitted the samples?”
