After He Walked Away Penniless, the Diagnosis Changed Chapter 05

After He Walked Away Penniless, the Diagnosis Changed Chapter 05

My phone wouldn’t stop ringing. Colleagues, friends, everyone was calling.

Julian and Emma had posted a long, tearful video accusing me of manipulating him for his money.

Their carefully crafted romantic image had tens of thousands of people fooled.

With paid promotion and viral spread, the story quickly blew up locally.

Strangers were calling to harass me. My inbox was flooded with hate, and someone had even doxxed my

personal info.

I couldn’t believe the sheer audacity of these two. But I wasn’t the kind of woman who stayed silent.

I recorded and saved every defamatory comment as legal evidence.

Then I posted my own long response video.

I titled it: [An Open Letter to My Ex-Husband, Julian Hart.]

The video opened with footage from our home security cameras.

Julian sat calmly in our living room, openly admitting that he had an affair with Emma three years into our

marriage.

The audio was crystal clear. His arrogant pity, his false gentleness, his condescending tone, every word was

captured.

“Don’t believe a liar’s story. Here is the truth.”

“Not long after we got married, Julian started sleeping with his student, Emma.”

“The cancer diagnosis was wrong. I sent him the proof right away. I didn’t hide a thing.”

“He left because he couldn’t stand my ordinary, mundane existence. Not because he was dying.”

“Sick or not, a man who cheats on his family, shirks his responsibilities, and tears down his wife deserves

exactly what he got. Nothing.”

“He signed it all over to me. Willingly.”

“We both signed those divorce papers. Voluntarily. He walked out on his family for love. Not illness.”

“Now that you know you’re not dying, suddenly you want your money back?”

“What happened to all that poetry? The romance? The pride?”

“I did nothing wrong in that marriage.”

“You hated how practical I was. I hated what a hypocrite you are. We’re better off apart”

“Everyone has to live with the choices they make. No matter how little time they think they have left.”

Overnight, public opinion completely reversed.

[So he thought he was dying, put on this whole dramatic performance, signed everything over to his mistress… and then it turned out he was fine?]

[A romantic affair doesn’t excuse betrayal.]

[So now he’s broke. And healthy. That’s karma at its finest.]

I just let it all play out. I edited my travel footage into lifestyle vlogs, showing my freedom and happiness.

So much for the dull, lifeless existence Julian described. My world was wide open.

Julian’s reputation was shot. The scandal spread to his university.

The once-respected professor became the target of ridicule from colleagues and students alike.

The school suspended him indefinitely.

All that pride. All that dignity. Everything he’d built his entire life. Gone. Overnight.

The truth about Emma was even worse.

She had used his supposed terminal illness to gain sympathy and set up donation links, asking fans for

money.

She had known all along that the diagnosis was wrong.

She’d figured after the divorce, Julian would split the money with her. Never in a million years did she think

he’d sign over everything.

She stayed silent the entire time, profiting off fans through their joint account and product sales.

A pure and elegant literary muse online, while secretly scamming money behind the scenes.

Once everything came out, Emma’s followers vanished overnight. Her account was toast.

People dug up her past, including selling unsafe diet pills and low-quality beauty products. Her reputation

never recovered.

Their downfall became a distant joke to me.

I went back to work. I lived my life. I traveled.

I posted my quiet, peaceful life online.

They didn’t have the energy to come after me anymore.

Six months later, I stopped by a café for a coffee. And I ran into Julian again.

He was wearing a delivery uniform, drenched in sweat as he picked up an order.

Our eyes met. He froze. His face went beet red.

The uniform didn’t fit right. Hung off him awkwardly. His hair was a sweaty mess, plastered to his forehead.

He looked like he’d aged a decade. Shoulders slumped. Just… worn down.

All that poetry. All those romantic ideals. None of it had saved him from real life.

In the end, everyone has to live in the real world.

He didn’t say a word. Just turned and bolted out of that café.

I picked up my coffee and walked out.
