He Called Me A Housewife While I Gave Him Everything Chapter 08

He Called Me A Housewife While I Gave Him Everything Chapter 08

I moved to a small, quiet town far from everything

Maplewood

I rented the top floor of an old house with a terrace and

took a job at the flower shop downstairs, Petal & Stem.

trimmed stems, watered plants, let the slow rhythm of the

days pull me forward. I thought maybe, finally, my life could

start again

Then the black Bentley pulled up outside the shop and

shattered the silence

Damian stepped out. He was thinner than the last time I’d seen him, his suit hung loose on his frame. He walked toward

me carrying bags overflowing with expensive gifts

Nora. I’ve been looking for you for months.”

He piled the things at my feet. Luxury supplements. Designer everything. Come home. Please.”

I set down the watering can and looked at him. I don’t have a home anymore.”

Damian swayed. He reached for my hand

I stepped back and picked up the rose pruning shears from

the worktable. I pressed the blades against my own wrist

Don’t come any closer.”

He froze

Nora, don’t. I just wanted to see if you were okay.”

I’m fine. Every day without you is a good day.”

The last shard of light in his eyes went dark. There’s

money on this card. More than you’ll ever need. Take it. If you need more, I’ll send more.”

He pulled a black card from his pocket and tried to press it into my hand. I shifted away and let it fall onto the dirt floor

I don’t want your money. It makes me sick.”

Damian bent to pick it up. His fingers were trembling

Nora, I know I was wrong. I put Chloe away. She’ll rot in

prison for the rest of her life. The baby wasn’t even mine,

never touched her. And that text, she stole my phone and sent

  1. it. I brought the evidence. It’s all here.He pulled a stack of

documents from his briefcase and held them out

I didn’t take them. I picked up the phone instead

Mrs. Henderson? There’s a man here disrupting my work. Could you please handle it?”

Mrs. Henderson, the shop owner, came out from the back

She was a kind woman, softspoken. She looked at Damian

politely. Sir, if you’re not here to buy flowers, I’d ask you not

to bother my employee.”

Damian didn’t seem to hear her. His eyes stayed fixed on

  1. me. Nora. Come home.”

A few customers browsing near the counter started to stare and whisper. I grabbed my jacket and turned to Mrs. Henderson. I’m taking the rest of the day off. Then I walked

around Damian and out the door without looking back

Behind me, his scream was strangled, full of agony

I changed jobs. Found a position at the Maplewood

Community Library

Damian stopped appearing in front of me. But I knew he

hadn’t left. Every day, that black Bentley sat at the curb

outside my building. He never came up. He just sat in the car from sunrise until night. I treated him like he was invisible

One evening after my shift, Leo Foster offered me a ride home. Leo worked at the library too, a gentle guy, the kind whose dimples showed every time he smiled

He’d noticed I’d been looking rundown lately, so he’d

made me chicken soup and packed it in a thermos

Nora, you’re getting too thin. You’ve gotta take better care of yourself.”

I took the thermos and thanked him quietly

We reached my building. The Bentley’s door flew open. Damian charged at us like a wild animal and smacked the

thermos out of Leo’s hand. Soup splattered across the pavement. Scalding droplets hit the back of my hand. My skin

flared red

She has me. She doesn’t need your charity.”

Damian yanked me behind him and squared off with Leo, menace rolling off him in waves

Leo flinched but stood his ground. Who are you

You’re hurting her!”

I’m her husband.
