Damian stormed in, his face twisted with fury. 

“Nora Vance. How low can you sink? You went and spewed filth to Chloe’s parents?”

ringing. I couldn’t process what he was saying. “Chloe’s parents? What happened?” 

He drove his knee into my chest. The pressure crushed, I felt my ribs strain. “Stop playing dumb. Chloe’s parents saw a message calling their daughter a home–wrecker. They both 

went into cardiac arrest. They’re in the ICU! Who else would do 

that? Who else?” 

Cold sweat slicked my skin. I gripped his wrist, shaking my head desperately. “I just found out about her today. I don’t 

even know where her parents live. How could I have reported anything?”

me, step by slow step, and his eyes held a madness that chilled 

me to the marrow. 

“Nora. Where did you hide her?” 

“I didn’t. I have no idea where she is.” 

The leather belt whistled through the air and snapped 

across my back. 

“Tell me! Did you lure her somewhere?” 

I screamed. I begged. But every word out of my mouth was 

just another lie to him. 

Eventually he wore himself out. He threw the belt aside, 

breathing hard, and pulled out his phone. 

The screen lit up with the vile photographs, the ones that 

degenerate professor took all those years ago. 

Damian’s voice dropped to something dark and cold. “If 

you don’t tell me where Chloe is right now, I’m sending these 

to your father. Let him see exactly what kind of whore his 

precious daughter turned out to be.” 

My blood turned to ice. My heart seized in my chest. 

“No, Damian, please, don’t do that, please…” 

My father’s health was barely hanging on. How could he 

survive a blow like this? 

I lunged for the phone like a wild animal. In the struggle, I 

watched Damian’s thumb hit “Send.” 

Damian froze. 

He stared at the screen. “Sent.” His face went ashen. 

He scrambled to recall the message, to delete it, frantically dialing his assistant. “Get to the hospital! Now! Take Harold Vance’s phone away from him! Get it before he sees anything! 

Go!” 

The door slammed open. Ethan burst in. 

“Damian! We found her! Chloe bought an international 

ticket. She took off to clear her head. Her phone was just off, she turned it back on. She’s fine.” 

Silence swallowed the room. 

Damian stood paralyzed. His phone slipped from his fingers and cracked against the floor. 

He stared at me, his eyes a wreckage of panic and regret. He crawled over, fumbling to unchain me, grabbing a towel to wrap around me. 

“Nora! Nora, listen to me. Your dad didn’t see it. I sent 

someone to grab his phone. They got there in time, I know they did.” 

The words kept spilling out, tripping over each other, desperate and childish. “Don’t be scared. If he didn’t see it, then nothing happened. Nothing happened, right? Right?” 

His phone rang again, 

“Hello? Are you the family of Harold Vance? Get here 

immediately. The patient, he was holding his phone. He 

jumped from the rooftop.”
