My Husband’s Gold Digger Test Cost Him His Wife and Son Chapter 04

In the chaos that followed, I was dragged along to the hospital.

I just never imagined that the mess caused by the old man’s faux collapse would somehow have to be paid for with my son’s blood.

The doctor came out of the ER, speaking quickly.

“Mr. Whitmore has a rare blood type, and the hospital doesn’t have enough Rh-negative blood available right now. Mr. Whitmore, you’re not a match. Could we test the child? If he’s Rh-negative too, he may be able to donate a small amount for the emergency.”

I immediately shielded Noah behind me, my voice sharp with maternal instinct.

“No. Noah is too young. He is not touching those needles.”

Ethan snapped, “Then what do you want me to do? My grandfather is lying in the ER. Am I supposed to just stand here and watch him die?”

“It would only be a little. He’ll be fine. Noah is my son too.”

I snatched the form from the nurse’s hand and rolled up my sleeve.

“It’s Rh-negative blood you need, right? I’m Rh-negative.”

“I looked at Ethan with cold disdain. “It’s a matter of life and death, right? Or are you still worried that a poor woman’s blood is too dirty for your precious family?”

The nurse fell silent for a second.

Apparently, it would work.

With one hand, I held Noah. With the other, I followed the nurse into the blood draw room.

When the needle pierced my arm, I did not feel the pain. I only tightened my grip on Noah’s little hand.

No matter what happened, I had to protect my Noah.

After the first bag of blood was taken, dizziness washed over me. The entire room seemed to sway.

I could not even cover Noah’s eyes.

He cried hysterically, watching the dark red fluid drain from my veins, his small hands clutching my shirt with everything he had.

I thought it was finally over.

But not long after, the nurse rushed back in, her eyes moving between me and Noah.

“There’s heavy bleeding in the ER. One pint isn’t enough. We need a second bag immediately.”

My face went cold.

“Keep drawing from me. But if you dare touch my son.”

Another bag.

Cold sweat slid down my forehead, and my whole body began to tremble uncontrollably.

Noah was frantic. He cried and tugged at the nurse’s coat.

“Stop taking Mommy’s blood. Take mine. Let me save Grandpa. Please don’t hurt my mommy.”

Ethan reached out, worried, and held my shoulder.

I shoved his hand away.

When I saw the nurse take out another blood bag, I did not object.

I stroked Noah’s hair. I was so weak it was hard to get the words out.

“Mommy’s okay. Noah, go outside and wait for Mommy, okay?”

Noah refused.

He could not understand why they still needed more.

This was pushing past the legal donation limits for a single person.

Helpless, he grabbed Ethan’s sleeve, his little voice hoarse from crying.

“Daddy, stop hurting Mommy. She’ll die. She really will die.”

Yes.

After more than eight hundred milliliters, a person could go into shock. It could become dangerous.

But Ethan did not stop them.

He only looked at me with helpless confliction, standing frozen like a coward.

Noah grew even more desperate, and his words came out without restraint.

“Stop it. I don’t want Grandpa anymore. I only want Mommy.”

Ethan’s eyes went cold.

He grabbed Noah and shoved him to the floor, then barked, “Noah Whitmore, how can you say that about your great-grandfather?”

I grabbed a pen from the side and threw it at Ethan, forcing out the last bit of strength I had.

“Touch my son again and see what happens.”

Noah was so hurt he did not even dare cry loudly.

He climbed up from the floor, walked to my side, and held my hand. Tears fell one by one.

“You’re all bullying me and Mommy…”

It was as if that sentence finally pierced Ethan.

He knew he had gone too far. He reached out, wanting to pull his son back and apologize.

Noah avoided him and only burrowed into my arms.

I wanted to comfort him.

But the darkness encroaching the edges of my vision finally swallowed me whole.

In the end, there was only endless black.

When I woke again, all I saw was a white hospital room and a white ceiling.

Only Noah was beside me.

He had been crying terribly, and his hand clutched mine with desperate force.

“Mommy, let’s go.”

“I don’t want Daddy anymore. I don’t want Grandpa either. I only want Mommy.”

I could not describe what I felt.

Hollow.

As if the last bit of attachment I still had for Ethan had been drained out of me along with all that blood.

I lowered my head and kissed Noah gently on the forehead.

“Okay.”

“Mommy will take you back to her home.”

I pulled the IV from my hand and left the hospital with Noah.

I did not even want the few things I had left at the Whitmore estate.

At the airport, I held Noah’s hand as we passed through security, then sat quietly in the boarding area.

Right before boarding, my phone suddenly vibrated.

Two messages popped up at the same time.

Ethan: [The blood donation was the final test. Emma, I believe you now. I know you’re not a gold digger.]

Mr. Whitmore Sr.: [I never really collapsed. Congratulations. You passed the test. I formally recognize you as a member of the Whitmore family.]
