My Husband’s Gold Digger Test Cost Him His Wife and Son Chapter 03

With a soft thud, the photo dropped into the box the moment Ethan finished speaking.

I frowned and looked at him.

“Why are you back at this hour?”

“Didn’t the teacher say you took Noah to the family manor to see Grandpa?”

Ethan froze.

I looked past him and saw there was no one behind him. My heart sank instantly. Panicking, I speed-dialed Noah’s teacher.

After I pressed her again and again, she finally stammered out the truth.

“It was… it was his great-grandfather. He took Noah.”

“He told us not to tell you. He also said Noah wouldn’t be raised by you anymore.”

Absolutely not.

Noah was my life.

I did not care about anything else. I grabbed Ethan and rushed straight to the Whitmore estate.

When we arrived, Noah was crying so hard his whole face was wet.

“I want Mommy. I want to go home. Let me go! She’s not my mommy!”

Mr. Whitmore Sr. was holding Noah in place, trying to force him into Vanessa’s arms.

“This is your home.”

“What’s so good about that mother of yours? She has no class. She married Ethan for money, nothing more.”

“I’m giving you a new mother. Vanessa is well-bred and gentle. She won’t just treat you well. She’ll raise you properly, so you can actually inherit the Whitmore legacy.”

I rushed forward, pulled Noah away, and held him tightly in my arms, murmuring a few words to calm him down.

Then I lifted my head and looked at Mr. Whitmore.

“Noah is my son. No one gets to take him away from me.”

“Mr. Whitmore, don’t you think you’ve gone too far?”

As the patriarch of the family, Mr. Whitmore had always looked down on me. Now, he acted as if even looking at me would stain his pristine vision.

He only looked at Ethan and ordered coldly, “Get her out of here.”

“Give her money and be done with it. Consider it compensation for the past few years, and for giving birth to the boy.”

“If Vanessa hadn’t told me you two were getting divorced, I wouldn’t even have known.”

“I’ve seen plenty of women like her. They pretend to file for a divorce, but what they really want is to use custody as leverage to bleed you dry.”

Ethan shot Vanessa a furious look.

Then he turned back to his grandfather and tried to explain.

“It’s just a misunderstanding. Emma isn’t that kind of person.”

Instead of calming down, Mr. Whitmore grew even more forceful.

“She isn’t?”

“If she isn’t that kind of woman, why did you test her for three years? Deep down, you still doubted her, didn’t you?”

“Ethan, that wasn’t love. That was pity.”

“And if that’s the case, stop letting this woman occupy the position of Mrs. Whitmore.”

“Noah stays. Pay her off. Divorce her.”

“I’m your grandfather. Do you think I would hurt you? Listen to me.”

The bodyguards beside him immediately stepped forward, reaching to take Noah from my arms.

I looked at Ethan, and tears sprang to my eyes.

“Ethan, say something.”

“After three years of marriage, do you still not know whether I’m a gold digger?”

“I was sincere with you. I was even more sincere with Noah.”

Ethan stayed silent.

He was still doubting me.

I stared at him in disbelief, the pain in my chest so sharp it felt as if someone had ripped my heart out with bare hands.

“You… still don’t believe me?”

“In the past three years, did I ever spend one dollar of your money?”

“Even when I gave birth to Noah, I couldn’t afford an epidural, so I screamed through the labor alone.”

“I delivered food, cleaned houses, washed dishes. I let people step all over my pride, and even then, I never once reached out my hand to you.”

“Ethan, you really don’t have a heart.”

I had nothing more to say.

Holding Noah, I turned to leave.

The bodyguards hesitated, terrified of hurting the young heir in the scuffle.

Just as I was about to reach the front entrance, Vanessa suddenly cried out behind me.

“Oh my God!”

“Mr. Whitmore collapsed!”
