The Day I Heard His Thoughts I Stopped Loving Him Chapter 06

Unfortunately for Julian, he wasn’t going to get the chance to grow into that role.

Partners pulled out of deals. Projects ground to a halt. Banks came calling for their loans. The Vance family’s crisis had

reached a breaking point.

During yet another heated argument, Julian stubbornly refused to follow his father’s orders. He even had the audacity to

announce to the entire household. “I’m going to be running this company someday. There is no way in hell I’m bowing

down to some woman!”

That declaration was the final straw. Harrison Vance, already worn thin from years of stress and overwork, collapsed

from the strain.

The Vance household was already in chaos from all the capital withdrawals. With Harrison suddenly hospitalized, Julian’s

uncle. Malcolm Vance, sprang into action as if he’d been waiting for this exact moment.

He swooped in and seized control of the company as acting chairman, installing his own son, Gavin Vance, to assist in

management. They executed a sweeping purge of personnel from top to bottom.

To the outside world, they painted the picture of an ungrateful son who had nearly driven his own father to the grave in

his lust for power and inheritance, a crime beyond forgiveness in both legal and moral terms.

While Harrison lay unconscious in the hospital after suffering a stroke, the uncle and cousin joined forces to expel Julian from the family entirely. Julian wasn’t just kicked out of the company; he couldn’t even get through the door of his own

father’s hospital room.

His increasingly desperate circumstances made it impossible for him to keep his cool. The arguments between him and

Olivia Harper grew more and more frequent.

Once upon a time, he had adored Olivia’s gentle, agreeable nature. Now, that very same blind agreeableness grated on his

nerves. No matter what frustration he vented, Olivia would only ever respond with that same soft, placid tone.

Julian, I believe in you.”

“It’s going to be okay. You’ll figure something out.”

“Whatever difficulty comes our way, I’ll face it with you.”

Beyond these utterly useless platitudes, she had nothing else to offer.

Then one day. Julian finally snapped at her in frustration. “Can you stop with the empty pep talks? Seriously. If you can’t

actually help me, then just… give me five minutes of quiet. That’s all I’m asking.”

Olivia fell silent for a few seconds. When she spoke again, her voice had gone cold. “Julian, are you blaming me right

now?”

He rubbed wearily at his temples. That’s not what I meant.”

“Yes, you are blaming me!” Olivia’s voice trembled, laced with that same wounded vulnerability he used to find so endearing. “If I’m so useless, then go back to Nora! There you go! Her family’s loaded! She can actually help you! So go!

What are you waiting for?!”

Julian’s face flushed a deep, splotchy red, as if she’d jabbed a finger right into an open wound. “What the hell are you

talking about? You’re being ridiculous!”

But Olivia seemed to have uncorked a bottle of long-suppressed resentment, and now it came pouring out in a torrent.

“Am I wrong, though? Every single day, you’re standing there griping at me. Complaining about problems I can’t even wrap my head around. What else is that except you wishing you were back with Nora?”

Julian, back when everyone said I was only with you for the money, that I had ulterior motives, that I was some kind of gold digger after your status, I didn’t listen. I ignored all of it.”

“But guess what? You’re not that rich heir anymore, are you? And I’m still here. I chose to stay. I’ve swallowed every dirty look, every whisper behind my back, right alongside you. Do you not see that? Any of it?”

Julian listened in silence as she unleashed her pent-up fury. He watched Olivia Harper reveal a side of herself he had never seen before, raw, unhinged, and utterly hysterical.

After a long pause, he spoke in a low, heavy voice. “Let’s break up.”

Olivia froze for a moment. Then, with a burst of manic energy, she ripped the engraved necklace from her throat and

hurled it at his chest.

“Fine! I don’t owe you a damn thing anymore!”
