My Fiancé Kiss His Fake Fated Mate Chapter 02

My Fiancé Kiss His Fake Fated Mate Chapter 02

“You can’t exert yourself!” Parker called after her. He threw me a conflicted glance. Then he chased after her. “We’ll talk when I get back.”

“Miss Hayes?” The nurse called me again.

I steeled myself and went through with the treatment. The needle sank deep into my arm. The doctor joked, “Scared? Close your eyes.”

I thought of Parker. He used to cover my eyes before every injection. Afterward, he’d blow on the spot to soothe the sting.

“No,” I said. “I’d rather watch. Time I got used to it.”

The needle pierced my skin. Tears leaked from the corners of my eyes.

“Does it hurt?” The nurse gently dabbed my tears away.

“It hurts,” I whispered. “But pain means healing. I can handle it.”

My phone wouldn’t stop buzzing as I left the hospital.

[Everly! Get to the boutique! Parker’s helping Chloe pick out a wedding gown!]

It was Mia. Dr. Holland’s younger sister.

Before I could respond, another message came through. [She wants your dress. The one Parker designed just for you.]

I looked at the photo. Chloe and I had similar builds. Parker stood beside her, face unreadable.

My fingers trembled as I typed back. “It’s fine. Let her have it. Parker already paid for it anyway.”

It was dark by the time I got home. I collapsed onto the couch and buried myself in the blanket Parker had bought me.

“Everly, did you have a good day today?” chirped the AI robot. It was Parker’s voice, programmed with his own words.

“Everly, are you tired? Did you eat?”

When I didn’t answer, it cycled to its core command.

“Parker loves Everly very much.”

“Parker loves Everly the most.”

“Parker loves Everly the most.”

Two months ago, those words gave me hope. Now they were just data.

I shut it off.

Movement from the surveillance camera above the door caught my eye. It swiveled. Found me. Then it glanced away, casual.

Something clicked.

Parker installed that camera before the accident. He said it was for “security.” Now I knew the truth. Someone was operating it remotely. Watching me.

He left the robot to lure me back. He installed the camera to make sure I didn’t fall apart. He knew I loved him. He knew I wouldn’t leave.

Arrogant bastard.

I walked up to the camera. I stared into the lens until my reflection blurred.

“Parker Hayes,” I said, clear as glass. “Are you enjoying yourself? The acting? The lies? Messing with my feelings?”

I yanked the power cord out. Darkness swallowed the room. Moonlight sliced across the floor.

I sank to the ground. Above the entrance, the fluorescent painting Parker commissioned glowed green.

I used to love it. Now it just looked pathetic.

Just like everything else in this house tied to him. The blanket. The pillows. The fridge magnets. The photos.

I’d grown used to his presence. And he’d used that against me.

Outside, rain hammered the windows. I rushed to save the roses on the balcony, but my right hand wouldn’t cooperate. The pot slipped. Shattered.

Dirt and petals scattered everywhere. I remembered the day we won that plant at the carnival. Parker held my hand and whispered that it was the first gift we’d ever given each other.
